What is Picnic Studio?
Picnic Studio is a nonprofit organization creating a progressive art space for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Our mission is to provide comprehensive support, meaningful income opportunities, and a platform that amplifies the voices of our artists. We foster creativity, social connection, and personal growth in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Picnic Studio will feature both an art studio and an exhibition gallery in a shared space. Once we secure this location, our program will operate like an artist residency, offering participating artists the opportunity to explore new mediums, build their portfolios, sell their work, and engage socially with the community.
There is an urgent need for innovative spaces that empower people with IDD
About us
Sascha Stannard is a painter and art educator whose career spans early childhood education and nonprofit work. She seamlessly integrates her artistic abilities with community outreach, fostering creativity and connection.
Molly Burch has spent most of her career as a recording artist and globally touring musician. Most recently, she has worked with several nonprofits supporting adults with disabilities, blending her artistic talents with meaningful social work.
“During my music career, I had the privilege of collaborating with Rick Fleming, an artist with Down syndrome, through Sage Studio in Austin, TX, which serves as a model for Picnic Studio.
Rick’s designs were not only exceptional but also highly sought after—our commissioned merchandise sold out within an hour and at three times the usual price.
This collaboration deeply resonated with my fans and showcased the extraordinary talent of artists with disabilities. Witnessing firsthand how Sage Studio transformed the lives of its artists was profoundly moving and inspiring.
It was this experience that led me to pause my music career and dedicate my life to creating a similar space, where we can continue to celebrate and elevate the work of artists with disabilities.”
